Five on... Saturday

Meant to post yesterday but life got in the way and another busy week came to an end! Justin was out of town for work so my mommy came to town to help me for a few days. She stayed with the girls while I ran Baker to a couple of appointments, mopped my floors and even cooked dinner one night. A saint, I tell you.

Justin made it home Thursday night in time for me to scoot on over to my next door neighbor's house to help celebrate her birthday. It was a nice little break after wrangling the children all week!

Baker had a follow up with the audiologist on Monday. He passed the newborn hearing test in his right ear after he was born but failed in his left ear twice so we were sent to a specialist to check it out. He was actually showing mild to moderate hearing loss in both ears this week which explains his ability to sleep right through things like the vacuum cleaner and his sisters screaming at high pitches!

The audiologist suggested that because he initially passed on the right side, the hearing loss may just be due to fluid buildup (which can be common in kiddos with Down syndrome - they have teeny tiny ear canals and can have a hard time draining fluid) so she referred us to an ENT just to be sure.

If it's indeed fluid, he'll most likely need tubes at some point to help clear it out but it shouldn't be anything that causes permanent damage. We received confirmation that he can hear us but sounds may be "turned down" a bit for him until that fluid is resolved. Another specialist to add to his medical binder! (And yes, this kid has an entire binder dedicated to his medical/doctor/appointment needs!)

We saw the cardiologist on Tuesday and had another good checkup! His EKG and echo both showed good heart function. He still does not require medication and is up over 8 pounds! Woo hoo! So proud of this boy.

Welcome to my crazy...

Justin snapped this last week during bedtime stories. Instead of winding down, the girls were going nuts and the bedtime routine took 1093424 times longer than it should have but I forgive them. They drive me bonkers but I'm a lucky mama.

I feel like Baker is THIS CLOSE to smiling! He's been making some serious eye contact and really focusing on our faces. It's the best! The girls are still obsessed with him (seriously, aren't we all?!) and will ask to hold him or get down on the floor to play. I'm looking forward to them really interacting with each other once he starts grabbing for toys (or hair!) and making some noises!

{FIVE}

We have a big weekend filled with family and friends as we get ready for the Step Up Walk! I've seriously been on the verge of happy tears several times this week thinking about the love and support our family has when it comes to Baker and his Down syndrome diagnosis and health concerns. I'm so glad we'll have the chance to gather everyone together and give back to the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City and celebrate Baker's life. Sunday will be a very good day.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
