Step Up | 2017

What a weekend! I shared on Instagram (and Facebook!) that it's hard to find the words to describe what it's like seeing your family and friends and neighbors and coworkers come together to support your new family of five and the special little boy we welcomed into our world just seven weeks ago.

They say it takes a village. The minute we learned Baker would be born with Down syndrome was the same moment we were welcomed into a special club of sorts.

And ever since, that club (with the help of our family and friends and neighbors and coworkers!) has supported us and guided us and shown us that life with Baker is and will be beautiful.

This past weekend, we celebrated  our boy with some of our favorites and 10,000 other people who know and love someone with Down syndrome.

10,000 new members of our village.

It was hot. Like, SO HOT! But that didn't stop our loved ones from taking time out from their own busy lives to show us their continued support.

The staff and 200+ volunteers from the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City put on one hell of an event and I cannot wait to watch Baker grow up surrounded by this community.

It's already hard to imagine a life without our Baker. I mean, really. What did we do with ourselves before his deep blue eyes and amazing hair (which can't stand the heat, BTW...) came into the picture!? I find myself staring at him, wondering about the type of person he'll become and sitting back in amazement because he's already taught me so many things.

Thank you {again!} to everyone who donated and/or pushed through the heat to join us this past weekend. It was amazing and we're forever grateful to have you in our corner.

Baker is lucky boy but I think we're the ones who hit the jackpot.

  1. Great event for a wonderful reason... still marvel at the number of people who braved the heat! So glad we could experience it with you and look forward to future walks. Love the photos!! Love you!
