Five on Friday | Life With Baker

We've survived our first full week at home with our sweet boy!

He's still pretty sleepy and we typically need to wake him up to eat every 3 hours. We're doing a combination of breastfeeding, bottles of pumped milk and formula as a means to make sure he's gaining weight like he should these first few weeks. I'm hoping as he grows that we'll be able to move to a nursing-on-demand type of routine but we'll just have to wait and see and read his cues!

This recovery has been a tad harder/longer than my other c-sections with it being my third one. I'm not the best at sitting down and resting when there are 12324 things that need to be done around the house and since I typically feel pretty good during the day, I find myself doing more than I probably should. My abdomen is pretty sore and tender by the end of the day so I need to remember to take it easy.

It's been busy and would and chaotic having him home but so, so wonderful at the same time! Here's a rundown of our week...

{MONDAY}

Ok, so I can't technically remember what we did on Monday since it was a whole 4 days ago but I do know that we did NOT have any doctors appointments. I *think* we just hung out around the house organizing and cleaning a bit. Justin's mom came up Monday afternoon to help us for a few days and some neighbors/friends started bringing food by the house.

And let me just say, I think Meal Trains are the single greatest thing you can ever do for a family welcoming a new baby. The amazing mamas behind Kansas City Moms Blog set up a meal registry and shared it with our neighbors and before I knew it, we had dinners covered for the next several weeks. It's wonderful and I'm so thankful. It's such a sweet way to bless our family and not having to worry about what to eat for dinner as we get settled is so nice.

{TUESDAY}

Tuesday was busy...

I woke up Tuesday morning to find my phone had completely bit the dust. It was less than a year old but for some reason quit on me. My worst fear was that I'd lose all of my pictures, include all that I had taken of Baker the last week or so. Before we could make a trip to the Apple store, Baker had a follow-up appointment with his cardiologist. He had and EKG and an echocardiogram which all still look good considering the defect he has. He doesn't require any medication at this point and will continue to be monitored closely

Grandma Michele was home with the girls so Justin and I ran to grab lunch after B's cardio appointment and stopped by the phone store. There was a wait, of course, so I put my name down and we headed back home because the girls had haircut appointments set for 1pm.

There is no before and after of Leighton's first haircut (#momfail but I did save some of her hair!) but she had quite the mullet going on so she was due for a trim. She cried a bit but was in and out in no time. Gracyn had a trim, too, ahead of school starting later in the week!

After cuts, I hauled it back to the phone store where they told me it had gone to iPhone heaven and I had lost everything except for whatever was on the Cloud. I'm not even sure how to use the cloud but by the grace of all that is holy, all of Baker's pictures had been stored there. PRAISE! I didn't care about anything else other than those pictures so I breathed a sigh of relief and went on my way.

By the time I was home with my new phone, it was time to set up for the neighborhood end-of-summer slash back-to-school ice cream social that we had planned. We gathered the 20+ kids on our culdesac for ice cream sundaes before they all started school. It was so fun and definitely something that I think needs to become a tradition!

{WEDNESDAY}

I had a follow-up check with my doctor as my incision has been giving me a bit of trouble. I nabbed an antibiotic to hopefully ward off any potential infection (probably thanks to a busier than normal Tuesday...) and we ran next door for Baker's weight check.

Boyfriend was up to 5lbs 14 oz (5 lb 7 oz at birth) so he's on the right track! It was on the lower end of what they typically like to see but at least he's gaining! We were sent to the lab for a blood draw and will do another weight check next week. Labs showed an increase in platelet levels so that was good news, too!

{THURSDAY}

Gracyn's first day of Pre-K! This girly won't pass up the opportunity to pose so we took a few quick photos before heading out the door. She has the same teacher as last year so it was easy breezy dropping her off. Excited to watch her grow this year!

A local photographer gifted us a newborn photo session so she came by the house yesterday afternoon to snap some photos. It went pretty well up until Baker pooped alllllll over Justin's shirt. It was pretty funny. To me anyway, I wasn't the one getting poo'ed on... ha!

Justin's mom had headed home Wednesday afternoon and his sister arrived last night for a visit and some baby snuggles.

{FRIDAY}

A slow morning followed by Baker's hematology appointment later this afternoon, which rounds out this week's doctor visits! I was feeling overwhelmed with all of the various doctors and specialists so I took the advise of Cedar's mom and put together a legit medical binder for Baker complete with tabs and labels and everything. It'll be a good way to keep everything organized so we can easily keep track of everything going on with this cute boy.

Today also marks Justin's last day home with us before the weekend! He's had the last 2 weeks off but goes back to work on Monday and I'm quite certain I won't be able to handle all three on my own. Ha! Don't worry, I've called in reinforcements in the form of my parents to help me find our new normal!

We're more than ready for a truly relaxing weekend. I'm exhausted all over again just recapping our week. We have no plans except to hopefully have a visit from my cousin and her family so they can officially meet Baker. She was able to come to the hospital the day he was born but wasn't able to hold and love on him.

Good news is that next week shouldn't be AS crazy in terms of doc appointments and errands! Welcome home, Baker Dee. We're so glad you're here.

  1. I'm tired just reading about your week! REST girl! Can't wait to snuggle with Baker and hear the girls' stories about him, school, haircuts, ice cream, etc. Loving the three kid photo too!

  2. And that is a FULL week. You are so lucky the Cloud saved your pictures, it gave me the finger last year when I got my phone wet and went to see my pictures and they were gone. Still get pissed about that. Yay for packing on some ounces, little boy!
